The BU governance

Leadership, governance, advisers and advocates.

The BU will be headed up by a Dean who will lead the key next steps in Barnardo’s lifelong journey to become a true learning organisation. The Dean will work with our CEO and other senior leaders and be supported by a faculty (to replace the Learning Organisation Programme board). Directors will act as professional leads and the internal faculty will be supported by external partners and young people's advisory groups.

We are reaching out to colleagues to form a Learning Leaders group. This will be a network of Barnardo’s people passionate about and actively involved in embedding a learning culture across our organisation. This group will form an advisory group to The BU Faculty team which will be headed by the Dean. The Learning Leaders group will comprise staff from all parts of our organisation and all job groups. The role is voluntary and the actions required will be integrated into each Learning Leader’s role.

Learning Leaders are:

  • passionate about learning in all its forms
  • active in their own learning
  • willing to contribute fresh ideas and perspectives
  • committed to active participation in our learning agenda – including, through Workplace, supporting the development of a learning culture in their own work environments and attending bi-monthly meetings, hosting focus groups on learning and being part of The BU ‘test and learn’ cycles to help shape our development towards becoming an effective learning organisation.

At this stage in The BU's development we've referred to some of our emerging faculties (Children’s services, Retail and Finance). As The BU evolves, we'll establish further faculties to ensure all parts of Barnardo’s are represented.
