The positive impact of learning.

Roy has always seen learning as an enabler to grow, develop and increase his personal knowledge, but he believes that the wealth that comes from learning must do more: "It has to improve what I do in work, and make me more effective - and proficient."

And it doesn't all need to happen in the classroom says Roy: "My best learning has come from me recognising where I need to improve and then going out and positively seeking where I can achieve this. For me The BU will make this process more efficient."

Roy gives an example of this in his move to the charity sector from the commercial world. He says he put himself on a learning journey "to better understand the role and impact our non-paid colleagues (our volunteers) can have on our charity and society. Learning can have a positive impact, and helps individuals attain their personal work goals, expanding their orbit and bringing greater job satisfaction."

A recent learning initiative to our Retail Academy is Strengthscope. It's enabled 800 colleagues to understand the parts of their character they enjoy using and feel energised by. We demonstrated how, by using this insight in a working environment, they don't just improve performance, but excel in the work place. This has had such a positive impact already, we can't wait to introduce our 1500 store associates to this. Exciting times.
