Filtering rules for disclosure (England and Wales)

Rules on filtering convictions from DBS certificates.

Filtering Rules

Filtering is the term used to describe the process that identifies which criminal records will be disclosed on a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate. Certain old or minor offences may not be disclosed on a DBS certificate. These are known as ‘protected’ offences.

Please refer to the guidance at the bottom of this page for details on the filtering rules for Standard and Enhanced criminal record checks issued by the DBS.
