Payroll Giving

How to make tax-free donations to charity

What is Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving is a way of donating to charity straight from your salary. It’s simple and effortless, except for finding the charity or charities that inspire you! The best part is, your donation is deducted automatically, before tax, which means the charity gets more from your donation without it costing you anymore.

It provides vital regular income to charities and allows you as the donor full control over your donation and when to start, change and stop donations.

What is GoodPAYE?

At Barnardo’s, we recognise the importance of offering our employees a broad range of benefits. Through our partnership with payroll giving experts GoodPAYE, employees can donate to any UK charity of their choice in a tax efficient way, direct from their salary. Donations are deducted before tax is applied, meaning recipient charities get more and it costs the donor less.

If there’s a cause close to your heart, follow these simple steps to sign up straight away or read our FAQs below for more information.

How to sign up

1. Visit www.goodpaye.com/join/barnardos, click ‘Sign Up’ and select your charities and donation amount.

2. Barnardo’s Payroll Team will deduct the amount from your gross pay. You’ll see the deduction on your payslip.

3. Your donations with then go to GoodPAYE who will then forward onto to your chosen charities. 100% of your donations go to your charities.

4. You can then log in at any time to view your donations or make any changes. Your data, preferences and personal data are completely confidential and totally secure.

Payroll Giving is the most impactful way to give to charity due to the huge tax benefits that you and our charities receive, so if you want to donate £10 to Charity X, you could actually give £12.50, £16.66 or £18.18, depending on your tax bracket, and it will still only cost you £10 in real terms.

If you have any questions or need any help, please send an email to the Payroll Giving team at workplacegiving@barnardos.org.uk, we will be happy to help.
