Recognition Day

How to book and who is eligible

The Barnardo’s Recognition Day is an additional day of paid leave for all colleagues employed on Barnardo’s terms and conditions of employment. It was introduced following the pay, reward, and recognition review in 2023, as a way to celebrate and value our colleagues.

Who does it apply to?

The Recognition Day is for colleagues employed on Barnardo’s terms and conditions of employment.  The Recognition Day does not apply to TUPE or As-and-When colleagues.  New colleagues will receive the Recognition Day following the successful completion of their probationary period and receive written confirmation.

How does it work?

All eligible colleagues should see the Recognition Day in their annual leave balance on Dynamics 365.

New colleagues can only book the day once they have successfully completed their probation.

Colleagues should discuss their Recognition Day request with their line manager and submit this via Dynamics 365.

Colleagues can book the Recognition Day like they book their annual leave, following the quick guide below.

If colleagues leave Barnardo's and have not taken their Recognition Day yet, they should speak to their line manager about whether they can take it during their notice period. If this is not feasible or realistic, this day will be paid back to the colleague.

Quick guide: How to book your recognition day

  • Log in to Dynamics 365 and click ‘Employee self service’.

  • Scroll to the ‘Time off Balances’ section and click ‘Request time off’

  • Enter the leave type (Recognition Day), start date, and end date

  • When entering the dates, under the ‘amount’ column, make sure you enter your usual working hours for each day you are requesting – this will default to 24 hours. It’s important you change this amount.

  • You then either click ‘save draft’ if you want to finish this later, or click ‘submit’, which will then send your leave request through to your line manager to view, approve, or deny.

  • To keep track of your leave requests, navigate back to the ‘View Time Off’ section and click ‘Time-off requests’ - you should see your leave requests listed.
