Assessed and supported year in employment

Supporting newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) to consolidate their learning and develop capability.

The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) was introduced in 2012. It is part of the total reform of social work recommended by the Social Work Task Force. The optional programme provides newly-employed social workers in England with a year of intensive support and holistic assessment against the Knowledge and Skills Statement (KSS) and the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF).

To be eligible for the programme social workers must:

  • have graduated within the past two years (exceptions may be possible)
  • be employed in a role that – whatever its title – enables the KSS to be assessed
  • be registered with the HCPC/Social Work England
  • have a named ASYE supervisor who is also a registered social worker

Subject to annual re-contracting £2,000 funding is available for each social worker registered on the programme.  £1,750 of this goes to the service.

To find out more please review the mini-guide produced by the Department for Education (DfE) / Skills for Care. The ASYE handbook includes full details of programme requirements, all the required forms and guidance and links to a range of relevant topics.  Please review this information carefully before proceeding.
